New Authors for Me & YOU!
What glory that today has struck my eyes blind with from the sheer number of free letters now swimming within the depths of my irises.
Mindi Briar, LGBTQ+ author local to the Greater Seattle Area, shared a little secret with me—so of course, I have to tell all of you! 😏 She’s just one of several dozens of authors participating in the “Free Science Fiction & Fantasy Story Giveaway” being hosted on Bookfunnel by other authors. The giveaway has already started and goes through the end of February—so you’ll wanna dive into the book-sea soon cus, my friends, there are SO MANY books to choose from!
(TBH, why choose? GET THEM ALL! MUAHAHAHA!!! [ahem]).
I don’t know about you guys, but I’m always on the hunt for LGBTQ+ authors who write authentic characters. Mindi has proven her ability to do so for years now, starting with her debut novel Adrift in Starlight. Set in The Halcyon Universe, Adrift follows touch-adverse historian Aisha Malik and gender-neutral courtesan Titan Valentino as they’re sent adrift together through space with quirky allies and a revived alien fossil. You can’t help but fall in love with them all.
One of my favorite things about Mindi is that she’s thorough in her research of LGBTQ+ identities that she doesn’t identify with. She uses beta and sensitivity readers for all her content! Knowing she goes the extra mile for our community makes her one of my top go-to authors.
I know I personally appreciate aromantic rep as someone who identifies as aro—among several other identities. (RE: Rainbow Soup). So, let’s talk about her free short story available in the Mega Giveaway!
A spinoff that follows the events in Halcyon’s Petrichor Blooms, the short story Grandma & Grandma’s Waystation Cafe is about two badass aromantic grannies in a queer platonic relationship who won’t let a little pirate heist stand in the way of their thriving business.
